MEMORIAL PLAQUES

For as long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as,

We remember them.
'We Remember Them' by Sylvan Kamens & Rabbi Jack Riemer

The Sephardic Temple serves as a repository of over 3,500 memorial plaques in a collection that includes plaques from the Sephardic Home for the Aged of Brooklyn, the Sephardic Congregation of New Lots, and the Sephardic Jewish Center of Canarsie.

Bronze memorial plaques can be found lining the walls of our Sanctuary as well as in our newly completed Memorial Hall - to learn more about our Memorial Hall, click here.

Plaques serve as a lasting tribute to loved ones and feature the English and Jewish names of the individual as well as the date of passing in both the Gregorian and Hebrew calendars. Each plaque is flanked by two memorial lights that are lit during the commemoration of the Meldado as well as on holydays.

The commission of a plaque ensures the perpetual recitation of prayers for the individual. All plaque inscriptions are reviewed by members of our clergy and are carefully manufactured. When a plaque order is completed and installed in our Synagogue, we welcome family members and friends of the departed to Shabbat services and afterwards share a private moment of consecration and prayer.

As it is said in Psalm 112:6, "the righteous will be remembered forever."
